Getting Around Ontario


Travel within Ontario is easy. Ontario is laced with a network of regional and national airline routes, railways, bus routes and ferries. If you are heading to more remote locations, you can book a charter flight. Car rental companies, plus airport taxi and shuttle services operate at major airports in Ontario.


Airports

The main international gateway is Toronto Pearson International Airport (airport code YYZ), which has two terminals, serving customers travelling within Canada, to the U.S. and international destinations. The other major airport is Ottawa International Airport (YOW). Frequent connecting flights will help you get from the gateway cities to many other Ontario cities such as Thunder Bay, Hamilton, London and Windsor.

Porter Airlines operates out of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, just minutes from downtown, and offers short-haul service to Ottawa, Windsor, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and Thunder Bay, as well as points outside of Ontario (including New York, Boston, Chicago & Montreal). Porter features state-of-the-art Bombardier Q400 aircrafts, plus free shuttle service to downtown.


Taxis & Airport Shuttles

Taxi and airport shuttle services offer transportation to and from major airports in Ontario. In Toronto, Airport Express offers luxury motorcoach service between Pearson International Airport and many downtown hotels.  The service is fully accessible, operates 20 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, every 30 minutes.  Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) operates an all-day express bus service from the airport to Kipling Station on the Bloor-Yonge subway line. Niagara Airbus offers shuttles from Pearson International Airport to Niagara Falls. Various shuttle services operate from the airport to other communities outside of Toronto (ie. Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London).


Rail Lines

VIA Rail offers passenger service throughout much of Ontario, with express service available between larger cities on most routes.  Commuter train and bus routes in the Toronto area are offered by GO Transit.


Coach Services Between Ontario Communities

Coach lines offer scheduled service between many cities and towns throughout Ontario. A number of coach companies service routes within Ontario, including Coach Canada, Greyhound and Can-ar Coach Service. In Northern Ontario, Ontario Northland offers coach service linking communities.


Public Transport

In Toronto, subway, bus and streetcars operated by the TTC link all of the downtown and major tourist attractions. OC Transpo, Ottawa, operates a major public transit network that includes rapid service from the train station, airport, and bus station to the city centre. Many of Ontario's other cities also offer public transit service.


Car Rental Services

Most major car rental agencies have kiosks at major airports.
